　　99A坦克的正面防護能力出色，采用了模塊式復合裝甲，物理厚度超過1米，正面抗穿能力超過700毫米，抗破能力超過1000毫米。然而，側面防護是其弱點，車體側面防護僅為50毫米厚的鋼板和一塊橡膠裙板，小口徑機關炮就能擊穿。盡管炮塔側面的裝甲厚度有所保障，但仍然無法抵御反坦克火箭彈的攻擊。
